philosophy.

We think subscription running apps have gotten too expensive.

If you look around today, major coaching and training plan apps cost about £100 a year or £15.99 a month. We’re developed by passionate runners, and we know how fast those subscription costs add up when you also need to factor in shoes, gear, and race entry fees.

How we can offer this has nothing to do with cut corners, and everything to do with intent. We have no venture capital funding. We aren't part of any "tech bro" or private equity scene. We aren't trying to feed a massive marketing machine, pay executive overheads, or buy Super Bowl ads. Shooson is a small, independent private company of runners who believe that fitness and being outdoors fundamentally supports people's physical and mental wellbeing.

Our hosting on internet servers costs under £15 a month. Since our overheads are so low, our fees only need to cover our basic services, hosting, and a fair wage for the developers and coaches writing the code. We'd much rather you save your money for your next race entry fee.

Why we don't make the app free

The app can't be completely free because we refuse to treat you like a product.

Shooson is built from the ground up with an absolute, unyielding focus on privacy. Our servers do not profile you, our app does not track you outside of your active runs, and we will never compile, sell, or share your data. We do not have ads.

Because we have zero advertising or profiling revenues, our only stream of income to keep the lights on and the servers running is user membership fees. We think that's the most honest way to run a service: you pay a small fee, and in return, we work solely for you.
