Why ShoosOn Is Named After the Hardest Part of Running
Shoes On — because sometimes just getting your shoes on is the one decision that actually gets you out the door.
You’ve probably already worked out that ShoosOn is meant to be read as Shoes On. It’s not just a cute logo trick — it’s the entire idea the app is built around.
It’s Never the Run. It’s the Doorway.
In general, people don’t skip a run because 5K is “too hard”. They skip it standing in the hallway, still in socks, negotiating with themselves about the weather, the time, or how tired they feel.
That moment — the one right before your shoes go on — is where almost every missed run actually happens. Not at kilometre three. Not on the hill. In the hallway, in the bed or on the couch, before you’ve even stepped outside.
Once you’re outside with your shoes on, something changes. You’ve already made the hard decision. Turning around and going back in to skip the run suddenly feels far more ridiculous than just running. It’s rare — maybe it’s never happened to you — that someone laces up, opens the front door, and then quietly goes back to the sofa. So just focus on getting your shoes on and getting out the door.
Shoes On. And Go.
That’s also where our tagline comes from: ShoosOn — And go!
Not “ShoosOn — go for a 10K.” Not “ShoosOn — hit your target pace.” Just: shoes on, and go. The plan, the pace, the distance — that’s all detail the app handles once you’re moving. The only decision that actually matters is the first one.
One Small Decision, Not a Whole Run
Most running apps sell you on the outcome — the finish line, the PB, the medal. That’s motivating right up until you’re tired, busy, or the weather’s turned, at which point the outcome stops feeling worth it.
ShoosOn is built around a smaller, easier decision: don’t commit to a run, just commit to putting your shoes on. Everything after that tends to take care of itself — get your shoes on regularly and the improvements tend to follow on their own.
Built Around That One Decision
That idea shapes real parts of the app, not just the name:
- Reminders are gentle nudges to get moving — not guilt trips about missed streaks.
- Sessions start with as few taps as possible, because friction at the doorway is the enemy.
- Plans adapt around the runs you actually did, so one skipped day never spirals into “I’ve ruined the plan.”
- No demoralising comparisons to outliers logging 500km weeks.
The app’s whole job is to remove every excuse before the shoes go on, and then quietly get out of your way so you enjoy your run.
The Whole Philosophy, in Four Words
If you’re waiting to feel motivated before you lace up, you might be waiting a while. Motivation tends to show up after you’re outside, not before.
So that’s it: shoes on, and go.
